Converting units

Ok ladies I'm going to have to ask... There are various measures that you make reference to in metric terms eg
imagenursemama2be:
The infant dose if 15mg per kg. Make sure you use kg and not lbs when dosing.

Or when talking dilation in terms of cms etc. But seriously, how many of you can visualize the metric measurements? Like when they said you were 10cms dilated, did you really picture 4 inches across in your head or was it just a random number?

It's actually the reverse for me, as Australia uses the metric system... So I keep having to go look up an app when I want to put in a weight in pounds. I can normally approximate lengths in inches though using 2.5cms per inch not the correct 2.54cms, and have got better at converting from celcius to fahrenheit.

When my us penfriend came to visit she had a lot of difficulties, so DH and I kept converting things as we spoke. It seemed easier for us to go from metric to imperial, than the other way.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
