Work Schedule Question

I am a social worker in the ER. Currently I work second shift (3-11:30pm) Monday through Friday. It gets pretty hard because I don't really see DH at all during the week. Also when I go back to work in three weeks I won't be home to do bedtime with DS.

Now there is an open day shift position and I may be able to move into that spot. The schedule is not 8 hour shifts though. I would work 12 hour shifts and my days would rotate each week. One week I would work three week days and the following week I would work two week days, Saturday 12 hours and Sunday 8 hours. So I would be work every other weekend.

 I am really thinking I want to try to get the day shift position...what would you do? I like that I would be home to do bed time every night with DS and would have more full days off, but I don't really like having to work every other weekend and lose the family time.
