Bleeding after sex (possible TMI), anyone else?

I understand it's normal to bleed after sex in early pregnancy (or even while not pregnant, for that matter; I have before), but hubbin' and I had sex the other night and there was just enough thin bright red blood to alarm me. It was (ughh.. sorry again for the TMI) on the inside of my thighs as well as his. The bleeding was just spotting the rest of the night, didn't really come around the next day, but yesterday and today I've had some off-and-on brownish spotting when I wipe. Is it weird that it would skip a day? I've read as long as it isn't very much, there's no major cramping, and it isn't bright red, it's probably fine. I believe I'm alright, and I worry about the cost of an ER visit, even with insurance. Anyone else care to share an experience with bleeding after sex that turned out alright?
