How long after c-section to get pregnant?

My husband and I have been through a lot the past few years.  We had 5 early miscarriages and then our sticky baby.  Our son had a condition known as hydrops and unfortunately passed away to his heavenly home a few hours after birth at 30 weeks.  I would like to try again -- hoping for the best.  My doctor told me wait 4-5 months, however every where I read says to wait around a year.  I don't know if in 4-5 months I will be ready, but does that seem like a decent amount of time to wait?
