Root canal during first tri?

I have been having shoot pain on my bottom right side of my mouth. I thought maybe my gums were just inflamed from pregnancy hormones, but I just came back from the dentist, and she 'thinks' I need a root canal. I wouldn't let her give me an x-ray, until I did my research and spoke to my OB. It's a tooth all the way in the back, and she said there's already a large filling in it.

Does anyone have any experience with dental surgery in pregnancy?
