Did you get a tetanus shot?

Hey all -

So I went to the doc for a preconception visit and she left me a VM after saying she forgot to tell me to get a tetanus shot. Did anyone get one? I have no idea when the last time I had one was. Just curious if anyone knows if they are really necessary and why?
