Irregular period while breastfeeding

I'm breastfeeding my 7-month old son about three times a day (he is on solids as well right now). My period came back about 6 months after I had my son. It's been a month and a half and no period. I'm definitely NOT pregnant sp I'm wondering what on earth is going on. Is my cycle supposed to be sporatic? Is it normal to not have a regular cycle while breastfeeding?
