testing for dairy sensitivity?

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I should be testing for a dairy sensitivity in my newborn or not. He's just fussy and gassy sometimes, but as a FTM I don't know what level of that is just normal, expected behavior or what might be excessive and a result of an allergy or intolerance.

I love, love, love dairy and have only been avoiding it since Thursday, and I know KellyMom says you have to be off it completely for 2-3 weeks before you can expect to see a difference (it at all) and I guess I'm just concerned that by that point those behaviors might have changed as a result of him getting older and not be connected to dairy anyway.

Thoughts? I know dairy intolerance occurs infrequently in infants (Dr. Sears and KellyMom says 2-3%) but my husband is lactose intolerant, which is different, but still might influence baby's ability to process milk, right?

Agh. I really just want someone to tell me that I can go back to having my cheese and ice cream, but I know that's the easy way out.
