STTN-when?

My LO is 10 weeks, born at 8lbs 11oz and was 12lbs 5oz at 9 weeks.  I asked the doctor what to expect as far as sleeping habits at this age and she was shocked he still wakes every 2 hours to eat.  She told me to call back this week if he hadn't started to show progress towards sleeping through the night (a 6 hr stretch).  Here we are next week with him still waking every 2hrs.  What is normal?  He is breastfed all but one bottle from DH of pumped milk.  I am strongly against giving formula just so I get sleep, but I return to work soon and this is going to be a problem!
