Bright red blood/blood clot at 5 wks XP

I had the terrible experience yesterday of getting very dizzy and and feeling a spasm in my hamstrings.  I decided to go to the bathroom and looked into the toilet to find it full of bright red blood.  I passed a blood clot the size of a quarter.  Called the dr and will have any ultrasound on Wednesday.  I've assumed I miscarried but have not had any additional bleeding or any cramping.  Anyone have an experience like this and go on to have a normal pregnancy?  I appreciate any knowledge someone can share
