When did you introduce a pacifier?

With DD, we waited until at least 5-6 weeks but I don't know if we can hold out that long with DS. I don't mind that he wants to nurse to sleep but he's been nursing every hour, hour and a half from 6/7 pm until 1am the past few nights and my nipples could use a break. Especially later in the evening I can tell he's just comfort sucking and not eating because he's not swallowing and falls asleep quickly while latched. He also likes to suck his thumb/arm/hands to settle himself down when trying to get to sleep. 

Do I just need to suck it up and wait for a bit? Or would it be ok to go ahead and see how he does with a pacifier?
