xp: feeling uncomfortable about pumping at work

Did you need to let your employer know you would be pumping ahead of time? I don't know why I feel like I have to ask for permission or something, I guess cause I am taking time out of my work day, it's a small business with under 5 employees, no HR and no easy place to pump without possibly inconveniencing others (ie the kitchen). I also feel like the whole place will here the pump going off and this makes me feel self conscious . Any advice, I really don't want to quit breast feeding because I feel awkward pumping at work. I just bought a PISA today and after spending that much money I'll be darned if I don't put the thing to good use

.  And I know legally I have the right, it still doesn't make me feel less awkward.
