When will the hurting stop?

I got cracked nipples almost day 1. Now every feeding is pretty excruciating at least until we get a good latch. The lactation consultant made sure we are doing it right- but sometimes I still see a crease when he's done... And scabby nipples are barely any better. How long should I expect the pain and scabs to last if we are latching right?
