Breastfeeding

Is it sad...

that when I was a little kid, I wondered why people couldn't make milk for their babies like animals did? I never asked my parents, I just wondered; I always liked finding things out for myself, but there wasn't anything in the house I could read that discussed breastfeeding (or at least, nothing a 6-year-old could easily grasp). It especially made me curious when I learned that you couldn't feed orphaned kittens cow's milk; it was my first tangle with the fact that certain species couldn't drink the milk of other species. I eventually learned that humans made breast milk when I was around 8 and got a hold of the family medical encyclopedia.

Did anyone else wonder this as a child? What does this say about how we grew up?
