Ovulation test as pregnancy test

After some research online, I couldn't really find any clear answers on this so I wanted to ask here.

I've been using the Clear Blue ovulation kit this month and ovulated last week.  I have a friend who told me if your egg becomes fertilized, you'll continue to get a smiley face on your ovulation test since your hormone levels never go back down.  This sounds fishy to me, but does anyone know if this is really true or not?
