RH negative ?

So I found out today that I'm RH- and I have never even received a shot. My doctor never gave me a shot after my miscarriage and I'm around 8 weeks now and he hasn't even mentioned it. 

I read a little about the blood type but after talking to my friend I'm really peeved at my doctor that he just said, "It's just a blood type" and left it at that. After calling a different doctor's office because mine wasn't answering the nurse told me that I can still get the shot to prevent my blood from mixing with babies blood. Do you think my doctor should have said something and given me the shot? Does anyone else have this blood type? I'm reading if you don't get the shot after miscarriage your next baby can have deformities? Someone help me.
