Nipple Shield Question

I've come across some conflicting info on nipple shields.  I've heard a lot of new moms are using them for comfort reasons or to help LO latch when they're too little to (this is from my BMB) but when I read about them sources tend to say they aren't recommended because they alter how the baby will latch to your actual breast and it can mess up your supply. 

As a FTM (due any day now) I was wondering is this something that I should invest in, or should I work through it, as I plan to EBF?  Anyone have advice or insight?
