Metformin and Early Pregnancy

I have been taking Metformin for about a year now.

I am 6 weeks pregnant--- my Dr. told me to continue to take the metformin along with my prematal vitamin.

I read online that taking the Metformin would prevent miscarriages.

What's your knowledge on this?
