Engorgement while weaning older baby???

DD is 19 mos and has only been nursing 1x/d for the past couple months. I'm attempting to wean but will go 2-3 days without nursing and become painfully engorged. Has anyone else experienced this? I find it strange that I'm still becoming so engorged when she was only nursing 1x/d. Just curious what others might have experienced!
