Babies on the Brain

Pet owners

Husband and I stopped by petsmart to look at kittens on saturday. We have always planned on getting a cat for me and a dog for him. We thought we'd get the cat first because we have a small apartment. (659 sq.ft.)

We met a dog. And fell for him. He's a mixed lab-retriever-shepherd-everything. Three years old. (Totally lame name- we can change that right?) Somewhere between 30 and 50 lbs. (I have no idea. He's about knee high and decently solid.) We're going to the shelter Wednesday to meet him in a less overstimulating environment. (He was a little over-excited by petsmart smells and sounds.)

So question is, What's something you wished you had known before getting a dog? Especially if you adopted an older dog from a shelter. Did you change their name? What behaviors should we look out for? What questions should we ask?
