Stripping membranes???

What do you 2nd + moms think of this practice?

I will be 38 weeks on Monday and my Dr. will allow me have my membranes stripped at my May 24th appt., which is just a few days before my due date. With my first she stripped them the day before my due date and within 48 hours I was in the hospital having the baby. It was super painful for the first day after she stripped them and I am trying to decide if I want to put myself through that again.

I'm just trying to figure out if it's really worth going through all of that pain (?) I could have just gotten lucky that it actually worked in my favor the first time. What do you all think? TIA!!
