Prostaglandin used to prep cervix during induction?

My doctor wants to induce next week due to medical reasons, but at my 38 week appt today, my cervix is still closed.  He says I will need to be admitted to the hospital for use of Prostaglandin to ripin my cervix, which could take up to a couple of days to do before I go into actual labor!  Have any of you ladies had to use this Prostaglandin to prep your cervix before you could begin labor???
