What do u use to keep LO dry during feedings?

My LO ends up getting completely soaked every time we have a feeding because we are using a nipple shield for various reasons. A lot of times all the milk leaks out of the sheild faster than he can drink it. I've tried using burp cloths and the little baby washcloths to cover his clothes but they don't really stay put and they end up getting all bunched up around his neck and mouth which I think interferes with his latch. Taking off his clothes makes him so irritable that he won't eat. He's 2.5 weeks old and feeding every hour and it's getting really hard to keep up with having to put a new dry outfit on him every hour! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
