Spider/varicose veins?

So when I was young & dumb, I was afraid to get pregnant EVER b/c I didn't want to get varicose & spider veins on my legs like my mom.   She endured 4 rough pregnancies, raised 4 kids, and as been a nurse for 36 years, mostly delivering direct patient care.  

So somewhere along the way, I changed my mind and I'm about to become a mom, too,and totally thrilled, but still a little curious-- when do the spider & varicose veins show up?
