Highlight hair suggestions

There is quite a bit of controversy on coloring your hair while pregnant.... I don't do this frequently, maybe once a year and that time is about now.... I am really getting the itch to buy one of those highlighting kits!!

Has anyone been coloring / highlighting their hair? Have your doctors advised against it?
