Question about timing contractions

So I've been having contractions for about the past 2 hours and they have been 7-8 min apart. I will start my timer on a contraction that is painless and will last a good minute, then it may seem to go away and then have a much more noticeable and painful contraction right on top of it. is the first one a BH? should I not time the first one? Should I time both separately? But then I won't have a pair again for 7 minutes or so....I'm confused
