Scheduling induction past due date?

Today's our EDD but so far no signs of early labor. I have a checkup scheduled for today and I expect my Dr. might talk to me about scheduling induction if there is still no progress in the next week. He has said in the past that they usually wait until 41 weeks have passed to induce, which I understand to mean that we would schedule for some time after May 9.

I would really prefer that labor will begin on its own but the other thing that we are worried about is that DH heads abroad to start a new job on May 21. So the longer it takes for the baby to come, the less time DH will have with us before he goes.

Anyone else scheduling induction past due date? How far out did you schedule? Is it too soon for me to be worrying about this?
