Help with name

in 3rd Trimester
So Dh and i have decided on the name Vera for baby #2.   He thinks it should be pronounced with a short e sound and I say it with a long e sound.     He thinks we should change the spelling if we have a long e sound....I say no.   Who is saying the name right?
