weird gas-like pain way down there

Ok, so I've felt this before during 2nd trimester, and I'm experiencing it again now, after quite some time of not feeling it.

I have gas-like pain way down almost in the vaginal area and also in my (ahem) rectum. Is this the infamous "lightening crotch"? I asked my doctor about it a few months ago and she dismissed it as "normal", saying it's the weight of my uterus and the baby pressing against nerves.

Anyone else experience this or get a different opinion on what it might be?
