breasts hard, pumping

I'm trying to get used to pumping, and have done it only a couple of times. Yesterday, only once, and a couple hours later and through the night, my breasts were hard, and kind of painful, like my milk was coming in again. I know about the supply/demand thing...is this normal, will it last, and how/when will my breasts not feel hard any more? I know I should probably pump a couple times a day. ?
