pump turns nipple purple?!

So I started pumping again tonight- haven't done it since I stopped pumping to increase supply about a month ago- and after 5 minutes I noticed my right nipple was really really purple! I stopped pumping, because it scared me. The nipple is a little tender, but not really painful. Praying DS sleeps and gives me some recovery time.

What could be causing this? Might I need a different size shield for that side?
