Too fussy to bf at night

For the past few weeks, DS (3 months old) has been getting so fussy at night that he will scream when I try to nurse him.  I have ended up more often than not pumping and DH will give him a bottle.  I know the ultimate goal here is to get him fed and to bed but I can't help be frustrated.  Anyone else go through something like this?  Could it be something he will outgrow?  It's always his last feeding, around 7:30 or 8.  Could it be a sign we should put him down sooner?
