Comfort nursing

Can someone please explain this to me?  Does your LO ask to comfort nurse?  Or do you just offer him/her to nurse as a source of comfort if they are fussy?  I'm just getting paranoid about my use of the pacifier with LO and wondering if I should be giving her the breast instead - I did twice today instead of going for the pacifier. But that doesn't always work, sometimes though when she's really fussy, she doesn't want to latch.  I'm just at an emotional crossroads with this whole pacifier thing....I know she won't always have access to me/my breasts, so should I save the pacifier for when she's alone with DH or at daycare?  If anyone has a LO who obviously comfort nurses, can you explain it?  TIA!
