conditioned to overactive letdown?

My baby is 4 months and he has dropped from the 70th percentile in weight to the 45th percentile. He is still 75th percentile in height. The pedi was not concerned, but in combination with some eating patterns I am wondering if he is getting enough. I have overactive letdown and it seems like lately, he only eats while the milk is spraying out and then stops swallowing. Then he often wants to eat every hour. I know there is still milk left because I can easily express it. Maybe he isn't getting enough hindmilk if he only eats during the letdown? The last few days he has also been fussing at the breast, unlatching but still seeming hungry afterwards. I don't know what to do. I don't mind feeding him often but I want to make sure is is getting the nourishment he needs. Anyone have experience with this?
