Carseat question...

I know that you're required to have a carseat to even take baby home and now that baby shower registering is coming up, I have a question...

 What the heck is a good carseat?? I know I should do research on my own, but honestly there's SO many different brands out there I don't even know where to start. Loads of them get great reviews but it's just hard to nail it down to a key few.

 

So.... any suggestions, mommies? I'm in desperate need of some direction here!
