used pump?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I tried searching for it and couldn't find any results for it.

A friend of the family gave me a bunch of maternity clothes as well as a breast pump. She said it was never used but I kind of want to doubt that since everything has been taken out of the plastic. Even if it was used I know it'll be fine once I clean it and sanitize it myself (It's very clean now but I need to clean it myself for my own sanity)

Since this is my first experience with any breast pump, how can I tell if it's still in good condition? i.e. No broken tubes/parts, no loss of suction,,,etc.

I'm almost 34 weeks and don't want to try it out on myself so is there any other ways to tell?
