Pumping

I am getting closer to my due date now... I have read books about and lurked on here. I am committed to breastfeeding but will be headed back to work 8 weeks post baby being born. Therefore, I am going to need to pump a freezer supply since I wont be home during the day to give over the boob.

I guess I am just wondering how you ladies built up your "supply" -- Did you pump when your baby was not hungry? The whole process is confusing to me. If she drains me each time she feeds then how can I express more for back up?
