Gift to big brother/sister when new baby arrives?

If you already have a child, do you plan to give him or her a gift when the new baby arrives?  Would you give it while in the hospital or when you and baby get home?  I haven't decided yet.  Right now he's really excited to have a sister, so It might not be necessary right away. I'm thinking that if he starts to feel left out during the first week, DH can take him shopping to pick out something new.
