Hip/sciatic nerve pain?

I have been experiencing this pain in my hip for about 3 weeks not that seems to get worse in the evening.  When I first felt it we had been shopping for gliders all day and was up and down all day long so I figured I was sore on my hip.  This pain has been every day since then and at it's worse it's excrutiating.  It is only on my left side and runs down my buttcheek but not down my legs.  Does this sound like sciatica?  Does anyone else experience this?  I tried a heating pat which helps a but but since I get this later in the evening it makes it very difficult to sleep since its on my hip and sleeping on my back and belly (obviously) are out the question. Tips anyone?
