When is a good time to buy the baby crib & assssories?

I'm a FTM and i was wondering when was a good time to start buying the baby crib.. i'm only 17 weeks now but want to make sure i plan ahead... or should i just put what i need on the baby registry in hopes that others will help.. mostly all the baby showers i've been too people buy mainly baby clothes
