So what do Braxton Hicks feel like?

So I have been having these weird pains that almost feel like "stitches" in my side but they are all over my belly.  They don't happen all the time but when they do they freak me out.  Are these BH?  How early to people normally feel BH?  Thanks for any insight you can provide!
