Whooping cough

I have read that Whooping cough is on the rise and I got to thinking about it today and I am going to ask my doctor in 2 weeks about getting it. I just read something from last year that the CDC put up and they say that all pregnant women should get it in the late 2nd or 3rd trimester. I am only 14w3d. 

 

What do you think? The reason I am asking this is because we just got back from vacation and while we were on our flight, across from us was a family that had a little baby and the baby kept coughing and coughing. All I could think about was that sounds like whooping cough and thinking it could harm my unborn child. Is that possible?
