When to buy? What to buy?

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. This is my first time being pregnant and I am so clueless. I was wondering when you should start buying stuff? Is now too early? What kind of things don't you really need? I know a lot of places make you think you need all this crazy stuff or your child won't be ok. I just want to know as a young first time mother...what are the essentials, and when can I start buying them!!!
