Allergy Testing

So we have an 'out of no where" allergy in my family to peanuts. We are not sure what side it came from as no one else has this allergy. It is life threatening so it makes me a little nerous, since it is with my half brother and he can't even touch or smell a peanut without being raced to the hospital.

Is anyone getting or had their baby tested for allergies while they are relatively young to avoid any major complications? How young can you do this? I just want to know sooner rather than later and avoid any uncessary trips to the hospital., especially since my hubby and I enjoy a lot of the things that seem to becoming common food allergies in kids.
