Do you have a doctor prescribed maternity belt?

Doc mentioned one during my second pregnancy,  but I never got one.  After a painful strain/tear of my ab muscles yesterday, I went ahead and ordered one and am getting measured for it on Monday...  Is it helpful/comfortable? 

 I borrowed an elastic band for pregnancy w/ my last baby, but it wasn't comfortable, so I rarely wore it.  Just hoping I don't end up wasting time and money if it isn't going to work for me.
