Too much weight gain -- How to get it to slow down?

I've always been very self conscious about my body, and therefore very strict with myself about staying thin. I found out I was pregnant really early -- 4 weeks. Up until 8 weeks, I only gained 2 pounds. And then out of nowhere it seems like I put on a TON of weight super fast. I ended up gaining 9.5 lbs my first trimester. I know that part of it could have to do with the fact that at 8 weeks my nausea subsided and I started being able to eat a lot more than I had been. I also had to stop exercising quite as vigorously because my heart rate got out of control and I almost passed out a few times. But I'm still eating the recommended amount of calories for my height/weight/age, etc and being careful to eat healthy. 

 

My question is, my goal weight gain is 25 lbs. Is that still possible even though I gained so much the first trimester? How do I get this weight gain to slow down and still be healthy? 

Has anyone else had this problem??
