Car seat question...

I've read recommendations saying not to skip the infant seat for just a convertable, but I'm not sure that makes sense for us. We live in an apartment and there are 2 full flights of steps and about 200 feet of walking between the car and the front door, and another flight of steps to the baby's room. I just can't imagine lugging the baby and the carrier plus my purse and anything I'm carring that far. I know if the baby's sleeping you shouldn't really wake them up but they'll only be in that carrier a few months anyway. We are registered for a Britax Blvd 70 if that makes a difference.

Is the carrier worth it? I feel like I'll end up leaving the carrier in the car and just taking the baby out. I plan on baby wearing if the baby cooperates. Any opinions would be appreciated!
