Flooring in house ripped out? 26 weeks

Hello--

My hubs and I want to get our kitchen floors redone... however when the guy came to quote it yesterday he said that we currently have tile over 2 different levels of vinyl.  Meaning, our house was built in 1964 (we bought it 4 years ago) and apparhently noone ever bothered to take out the old flooring.  To do it right, we should remove the old flooring before we install the new one.  Out of curiousity, should i be concerned with asbestos/other posions that could be airborn during the demolition?

Our floors are really in bad shape, so we want to do these before the baby if possible (and since I am 26 weeks, that doesnt gie us much time!) . What are your thoughts?
