Car Seats??

Hello Ladies! So my inlaws have bought us an infant car seat and stroller set and I was just wondering what comes after the infant car seat?? I see so many options but dont know where to go from the infant seat. I ask because my mother thinks its a good idea to put that on our registry so we are prepared or can use the coupon and catch it on sale. What have you ladies used after the infant car seat?
