Best approach to buying maternity clothes?

Hi ladies,

We're on a very, very tight budget and I'm just wondering what the best approach to buying maternity clothes is. Currently I'm too big for my clothes but I don't have 'the big baby bump': do maternity clothes come in different sizes? Not as in for women who are larger or smaller anyway, but for women who are 'more' or 'less' pregnant? And is it better to buy clothes as you need them (e.g. buy everyday wear, but nothing for going out: just get that when you need it) or to stock up big time when a store has a sale, or what? I've never been one to enjoy spending a lot of money on clothes and the idea that I'm going to need a new wardrobe is so daunting.
